While inter-city bus travel is often viewed as a legacy system of the 1970s the truth is that it is a booming sector. There are almost 5,000 scheduled intercity bus trips each weekday in 2024, which is a 35% increase since 2006. Annual ridership of inter-city buses exceed 62,000,000 passengers a year.

Inter-City Bus Services

  • Indian Trails, Indian Trails operates six (6) routes in the state of Michigan, five (5) of which connect to the Upper Peninsula. Service also reaches Duluth (MN), Milwuakee (WI), and Green Bay (WI)
  • Greyhound, Greyhound contracts bus service to provide connectivity within the lower third of the state; providing connectivity to Chicago, Lansing, Flint, and Detroit.
  • megabus, Megabus primarily resells service provided by other bus providers.
  • Ferris State University also operates an inter-city shuttle service in cooperation with the RAPID.
